MOVIE OF THE MONTH reveiwed by Mike Recently we saw the movie FRIDA, about the life of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. She was born in Mexico in the early part of the 20th century, and married the Mexican artist Diego Garcia Rivera. He became a well known mural artist. Frida was crippled whilst still quite young with serious spinal injuries after a motor accident and suffered as a result of her infirmity, from mental illness and depression for much of her life. She became famous as a painter for her works dealing with peons and Indians of Mexico from a socialist perspective, attempting to better their poverty stricken lives by publicising their cause through her art. After her death, and with the rise of feminismin the latter part of last century she also became something of an icon for the Women's Liberation movement. A great painter and a very interesting movie. |
latest WAVE(xmas issue 2008) is available now The latest xmas issue of WAVE is now out- come into Artsenta if you have not recieved a copy but would like to find out the latest in Artsenta news. The last edition of WAVE is also still avaliable. Wave is Artsenta's newsletter packed with pictures, news, poetry and even a cartoon drawn by an Artsenta artist. Wave comes out 2 or 3 times a year. If you have not recieved a copy come on in to Artsenta to pick one up. Music Opportunities at Artsenta Musical HappeningsPerformance and music continue to be strong at Artsenta. We are always looking for people who are keen to play an instrument such as guitar or drums. Any songwriters out there - we'd love to help you develop your songs. Artsenta can help you record your original songs or cover versions. We have regular concerts which give people the opportunity to perform if they want to. We can also broadcast people's original music on our fortnightly radio show "Artwaves" on Hills AM.
