Recently we saw the movie FRIDA, about the life of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. She was born in Mexico in the early part of the 20th century, and married the Mexican artist Diego Garcia Rivera. He became a well known mural artist. Frida was crippled whilst still quite young with serious spinal injuries after a motor accident and suffered as a result of her infirmity, from mental illness and depression for much of her life. She became famous as a painter for her works dealing with peons and Indians of Mexico from a socialist perspective, attempting to better their poverty stricken lives by publicising their cause through her art. After her death, and with the rise of feminismin the latter part of last century she also became something of an icon for the Women's Liberation movement. A great painter and a very interesting movie.
