Music

There are many options for exploring music at Artsenta. We have a well equiped music room with several types of guitars, keyboard, bass and drums as well as lots of things that can be banged or shaken. Jacob and Jake are the regular staff members to see about  music in general. If you want a planned session to learn, practise, jam or record, these need to be booked - just call ahead to arrange these sessions.

Singing is something that lots of people enjoy so we have compiled a collection of  favourite songs that are written up in the music room. Most of these will be familliar to most people and along with the lyrics have the guitar chords written up as well. We are always keen to add new songs so if you have a song or two in mind please let us know

Concerts. . .We have concerts every couple of months at lunchtime here in our space. Along with providing our songwriters, poets and performers a platform to showcase their work, these concerts are a great way for the wider Artsenta community to enjoying professionally presented, free, live, entertainment as well as supporting one anothers creatine ventures.  Did you see our Concert at The Gardens in October 2009? That was our first public concert and was much enjoyed by performers and audience alike.

Radio Show. Every second Wednesday at 2pm we host a Radio Show on OAR (105.4FM). Named Artwaves, our show reflects the diversity of Artsenta. We play a variety of music including our songwriters original songs and regular live to air recital of poetry and stories.
You can take part by making a request, or by coming along and maybe even anouncing. Generally we meet at Artsenta at 1.30 and travel together to the radio station. Some people come in earlier and choose songs from our collection of cds. There is also a large selection of cds to choose from at the station or you can bring in some of your own favourites.

Inspired by the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra we have several Artsenta Ukuleles - geared towards absolute beginners, ukuleles provided, this is a great insrument to learn.
