It was Eric Gill who said that craft is the art of making the useful beautiful. Although the tools and materials are the simplest, from sticks and yarn, the most beautiful and functional garments can be produced. Knitting keeps my hands busy and my mind relaxed; without it I would smoke nonstop. Every year I knit dozens and dozens of warm children's hats and garments to be distributed in poor villages in India. I have had the privilege of going to India twice and seen how they are appreciated. I source my yarn from opp shops and donations. I enjoy the challenge of matching colours in striped hats. I do a lot of knitting at home but dislike the finishing part, so I bring it to Artsenta to sew up seams and darn in ends, and enjoy the appreciation of my work expressed by artists and staff.
